BIKERS ARE PEOPLE TOO

Bikes and me

Although I only got a licence in 1997 I have been around and riding bikes for some 20 years. Much to my regret I have never owned a bike but I have ridden a few of my friends bikes and I intend to get one soon.
From my first experiences on a Puch moped, a fizzy, then a couple of blasts on an RD350 I have been smitten with the two wheel bug. I have followed bike racing for the same amount of time and I read a wide range of motor cycle magazines.

Bike Racing

I dont have much to say here but you might find something of interest in my motorsports pages or my seasons review and predictions.

I have been suporting motor cycle racing for years and am very pleased when any Brit does well. I would like to see more people supporting our up and coming racers. Big respect to Fast Bikes magazine for setting a trend of supporting young racers and getting them to write up their experiences for the mag, a trend which has been copied by other publications.
120 thousand turned out to watch Foggy at Brands in 1999 so where are they for the rest of the year. If they turned out in force to more events then OUR riders would be likely to get more sponsors and therefore stand a better chance of getting a World Class ride.
If you cant go yourself then try something like "Team Fast Bikes", (other supporters clubs and magazines are available) a place where you can support British talent from the comfort of your own home. Personally I would rather be trackside.
Its easy to support a winner, but everybody has to start somewhere. Just think, in years to come if you could say I knew him when he was a nobody. Remember seeing Foggy come off his privateer 500 way back when, alongside Schwantz, neither do I, I saw it, I remember I was disapointed that a Brit and a privateer at that should fall off from such a good start but I didnt have a clue who he was then. Foggy remembers it, he says the crowd have been his inspiration ever since.
I bet half the crowd from Brands are Man U fans this year, were Arsenal fans last year and were Blackburn fans for a while before that. Get a life and support the sport not just the champions.

There is more to racing than World champions. Throughout the year you are bound to find local events of all types of racing and just because you have never seen it before does not mean you wont like it. The thrills are different but trials riding is just as intense as drag racing. Speedway is as enthralling as Super Bikes. Dougie Lampkin is just as great a champion as Carl Fogarty.
Go and try it all.

Top Stuff

This link is to a list of my favourite machinery. They are in no particular order and if there is any special reason for my choice I will say so. These are all modern machines but I do have a soft spot for some classics, I just would not want one. I think my Dad and Grandads bikes may have started my interest even before I knew I was interested. I grew up with Panthers, Shadows, Square Fours and others which I still love to see at classic shows.
These views are not based on riding these machines, just on looks, feel and media reports.

He's raving again

I am not shy of voicing my opinions so if you are interested I have added some pages concerning Motorcycle legislation and road safety in general.
